Susumu Yokota

I woke up thinking about Susumu Yokota’ s Grinning Cat album this morning. It is an album I remember hearing for the first time, and not really being able to compare it to anything I had heard before. The way the album is composed and put together tells the story of a journey. If you have time listen to it from start to finish, because I believe he really meant it to have a narrative. It is piano centric which I have a bias for, and utterly unique. I sadly learned that he died almost two years ago this spring at the age of 54. It is a special thing when you find an artist who not only thinks about music but also concept.  Enjoy!
